The cuckoo clock

The cuckoo is very popular in Germany. In 1738, a german clockmaker, Franz Anton Ketterer, created a clock imitating the cuckoo's cry.

At the beginning of his bird clock project, we presume that Franz Anton Ketterer wanted to imitate the rooster's cry, but it was too hard to do. So he fell back on the cuckoo, easier to reproduce.

Anyway, the cuckoo clock has quickly become a worldwide phenomenon. Nowadays, it's a symbol of Germany and particularly of the Black Forest region.
